KidTunes
No one needs to do a fancy gap analysis to realize that itunes Radio has no kids/toddler music category. If there is one and I am missing it then please let me know -and include a screen grab or something, afterall, I am from the "Show-Me" state originally!
Inspiration problem: my 2yr old was asking for songs this morning. Basically, he says, "sing, dadda, sing" and this means he wants music. More specifically it means he wants toddler style sing-a-long's or Wilco's latest album, oddly enough. The problem is we don't have any toddler style tunes in our itunes mega library and "Wilco-I-luv-ya-baby" wasn't doin' it for me this morning. -Thus I arrive at itunes.
I quickly realize we don't have any kids music in our library. I drag the ole clicker to the Radio menu, click and realize there's no kids category nor could I find a kids/toddler station in the more mainstream radio categories. Surely there is an online radio stations catering to kids music right?
I head over to Netflix and proceed to be bummed first by my inability to find kids sing-songy products within the "streaming" area and second over my uncertainty regarding whether or not I was searching, or could search, only within the context of the streaming products area. Just so ya know, yes there are many sing-a-long kids videos...all available on DVD...only. Perhaps an on-demand world has made me too demanding but waiting for a dvd to come in the mail stills seems pretty lame.
(seems that the rest of my intended post got cut off during email posting...Typepad your email function has a glitch...if a person includes several --- (dashes) in their email-to-post your system cuts off the body of text at the dashes!) [regardless here is the rest of the post]
Perhaps you also know of streaming sing a long titles on Netflix...again if the exist please let me know where to find 'em!
Like always we arrive together at the value opportunity. The easy brainstorm options are to lobby for a kids music section on the itunes radio feature (or maybe I just look a little harder?right!). Perhaps start a nice web based toddler radio station or better yet a range of stations catering to smaller/incremental age bracketing such as soft music lullaby and ocean sounds for infants, jump-N-sing Toddler sing-a-long for 2-4yr olds and so on. Maybe a progressive music label could build the same brand power as BabyEinstein and own the kids sing-a-long entertainment space from youtube to netflix to itunes to streaming radio to instore gifts and dvd's. Heck expand it to gaming and dominate the play, learn, expression game space too.
Well that's it! For me it's a fun one too. This concept would make for a killer valuestorm (brainstorm focused on value modeling) but since it's Saturday I am gonna roll!
By the way, I ended up watching Blue's Clues with my son which has some sing-songiness to it. Still it was not what I wanted exactly.
Rock-cL!
