Whoa, where have you been?
Right! Where have I been? Good question. Well, I've been gone! Heh, so long that two people told me they'd stopped considering my blog worth visiting. Like anyone who has been absent or tardy I have great excuses, I do. Like juggling family responsibilities with work and work travel and a huge project that has taken most of my free brain scope and a studying for a test and, and.... I could go on all day. But I will spare you the song and skip to the dance...the real deal is I needed a break from thinking. I needed a break from doing. For awhile there I was doing all day at work and then pushing on into the wee hours of night. While fun and exciting and all it was too much so I decided to step back and enjoy my free time by doing nothing more than being Dad and Husband. I feel much better now for it! Breaks matter. Rest matters.
That said, I got inspired today. So the first business idea in a long time is a short one. It's a simple idea, a retirement community planning company specializing in social media based planning tools that empowers end of life self management before the great power-down takes place. Yep, you heard me right, the Great Power-Down!
So what is it? Simple. I have friends, you have friends. These friends are all over the world in different places. These friends and family members now keep in touch via various digital social places. Everyone of us is going to die someday. A lot of us will live to be old enough to need a lot of help. Some of us will embark on the great power-down with limited faculty due to illness or advanced age. If you are lucky you'll have children or family who will know your wishes and act kindly towards your care. If unlucky you could end up in a "home" with no one who knows you and no way to connect with those you once knew.
This company and the range of products offered would be focused on establishing life wishes while "young-and-with-it", visualizing connections of friends and family and providing management tools in the context of the social media outlet(s) so that in the case of untold future events the right people can be notified. Also, retirement planning with a shared cohort focus, retirement investing with same cohort focus and privacy tools that allow the right people access to the right info while keeping the wrong people from getting the wrong info, yada, yada.
Ultimately, in the future, it will be easier than ever to visualize the extent of friendship, kinship and acquaintance. This ability to connect "life details" (from friends to family to investments to behaviors and preferences) creates unprecedented value and huge opportunities to tie everything from where you choose to retire, who you choose to retire with, how you'd like to "retire" -if ya know what I'm sayin', what happens after you expire and who gets your loot (or debt).
I know, I know, this is not a new idea. People have been creating wills and providing retirement planning and investing for years. What has changed is the ability to visualize connections to many different aspects of life and relationships via social media and analytics. Really the future is sort of creepy if ya ask me but the bright spot is that it will be easier than ever to find people you might want to power-down with! I have no doubt several bright people are already working on this.
Ok, rock.
